The London Borough of Bromley is a South London borough (South East London sub-region) forming part of Outer London, which itself is part of the Ceremonial County of Greater London. The borough was formed 1st April, 1965 by merging of the Municipal Borough of Bromley, Penge Urban District, the Municipal Borough of Beckenham, Orpington Urban District and the Chislehurst part of Chislehurst and Sidcup Urban District. The borough's administrative headquarters are in Stockwell Close, Bromley and local postcodes include BR & SE. The London Borough of Bromley is the largest of the 32 London boroughs. Much of the land is Green Belt. The northern part of the borough is primarily urban, while the south rural.
Bromley town forms part of the London Borough of Bromley in Greater London. It is the principal town of the borough and the Prime Meridian passes through the town. In the 10th century Bromley became a significant area once the Bishops of Rochester had established a residence there. The Amazing Grace Church in Bromley started in the home of the Chadwick family of Bromley in 2008. The Bromley Civic Centre Wedding Fair has been held in the Old Palace, which was originally built for the Bishop of Rochester in 1775 and Bromley's development as a town was significantly bosted after the arrival of the railways in 1858. Writer HG Wells was born in Bromley and, after her marriage, author Edin Blyton lived there.
