Lewisham Wedding Fairs

The London Borough of Lewisham is a South London borough (South East London sub-region) forming part of Inner London, which itself is part of the Ceremonial County of Greater London. The borough was formed 1st April, 1965 by merging the former area of the Metropolitan Borough of Lewisham with the Metropolitan Borough of Deptford. The London Borough of Lewisham's administrative headquarters are in Catford and local postcodes iclude SE & BR. 'Salus Populi Suprema Lex' is the motto of the borough, meaning 'The Welfare of the People is the first great law'. The borough had the first directly elected mayor in 2004 out of all the London councils. Lewisham is the thirteenth smallest of the London boroughs, being 35.16km square in area. It is however one of the largest Inner London boroughs.
Deptford forms part of the London Borough of Lewisham and is located on the south bank of the River Thames. Deptford origanated as a ford of the River Ravensbourne on the ancient pilgrim route from London to Canterbury which became Watling Street in the medieval period. The ford was bridged and in the mid fifteenth century was the location of the Battle of Deptford Bridge when Cornish rebels marched on London protesting against punitive taxes. The first Royal Navy Dockyards were located at Deptford Docks from the 16th to the 19th century and were etsablished under the reign of Henry VIII. Queen Elizabeth I knighted Sir Francis Drake aboard the Golden Hind at Deptford.
