The London Borough of Hillingdon is a North London borough (West London sub-region) forming part of Outer London, which itself is part of the Ceremonial County of Greater London. The borough was formed 1st April, 1965 by merging the former districts of Uxbridge, Ruislip-Northwood, Hayes and Harlington and Yiewsley and West Drayton in the historic county of Middlesex. The London Borough of Hillingdon's administrative headquarters are at the Civic Centre in Uxbridge and local postcodes include TW & UB.
The London Borough of Hillingdon is the second largest of the 32 London boroughs by area, but due to the large areas of Green Belt land, it is the least populated. It is also the most western borough in Greater London. The borough has the highest ratio of vehicles per household, measured at 1.4 in 2011 and there are around 200 parks in the borough. The borough incorporates the former districts of Uxbridge, Hayes and Harlington, West Drayton and Ruislip-Northwood in the historic county of Middlesex The London Borough of Hillingdon adjoins The London Borough of Hounslow, The London Borough of Ealing and The London Borough of Harrow.
South Hillingdon is houses a number of large industrial units including British Airways Head Office and Cadbury Schweppes. North Hillingdon is mainly suburban and has one of the highest average incomes per capita in the country. The borough is home to Heathrow Airport, Brunel University, RAF Northolt Aerodrome and RAF Uxbridge. The Grand Union Canal is also in the borough, linking London to Birmingham.
