The London Borough of Merton is a South London borough (South West London sub-region) forming part of Outer London, which itself is part of the Ceremonial County of Greater London. The borough was formed 1st April, 1965 by merging the Municipal Borough of Mitcham, the Municipal Borough of Wimbledon and the Merton and Morden Urban District, all of which formed part of Surrey. The London Borough of Merton's administrative headquarters are in the town of Morden and local postcodes include CR, KT, SM & SW.. The borough's name is derived from the historic parish of Merton which was centred on the today's area of South Wimbledon.
Morden is a district within the London Borough of Merton. The name or 'Morden' derives from the Andgo-Saxon. The Doomsday Book of 1086 lists the population of Morden ast just 14. The Garth family have owned land in Morden for over 400 hundred until Sir Richard Garth sold the manor inin 1872. The London Underground reached Morden in 1926 with the building of the Northern Line. Morden Station was designed in the Art Deco style of the period and the improved communications allowed the population of Modern to grow significantly.
